Journal Club – December 2024
This month, IMV’s equine vet, Laura Quiney, explores the development of a new radiographic technique to highlight fractures of the axial aspect of the lateral proximal sesamoid bone. Immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA) is the most common haemolytic disorder in companion animals, affecting approximately 0.2% of the referral population of dogs. In this month’s journal club, IMV vet Harriet discusses a paper which hopes to describe and characterise changes documented on thoracic and abdominal imaging of dogs with confirmed IMHA. This month, IMV vet Amy will be discussing The Heart to Single Vertebra ratio (HSVR); a new method of measuring the vertebral heart score (VHS) by using just one of the thoracic vertebrae. The authors compare the HSVR with the VHS, and find the new method to be in great agreement with the VHS, and very repeatable.
