Our experienced engineers complete a range of checks and inspections to ensure there are no imminent issues and your generator is performing to the clinical and safety standards required.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HSSE NISR &#8211; IRR17&nbsp;The Ionising Radiations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017,&nbsp;state that :&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Maintenance and examination of engineering controls etc and personal protective equipment<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>11.<\/strong>\u2014 (1)&nbsp;An employer who provides any engineering control, design feature, safety feature or warning device to meet the requirements of regulation 9(2)(a) shall ensure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">(a)that any such control, feature or device is properly maintained; and&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">(b)where appropriate, that thorough examinations and tests of such controls, features or devices are carried out at suitable intervals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/nisr\/2017\/229\/made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Ionising Radiations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 (legislation.gov.uk)<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first step involves your field service engineer carrying out visual inspections of the X-ray generator casing to ensure the outer protective casing appears intact and all cabling is fit for purpose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also carry out extensive X-ray beam checks, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reproducibility<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Ensuring repeat X-ray exposures taken with the same parameters are consistent.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accuracy<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Testing of the generators kV range; repeat exposures with an increasing kV are undertaken and the resulting radiographic exposure assessed. This allows assessment of the kV output accuracy.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Linearity<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 In the same way accuracy testing is performed, repeat exposures are performed at 50kV with an increase in mAs from low range through to high range. The resulting radiographic exposures allow assessment of mAs output.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collimation<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 The X-ray beam and the light field collimation are checked for alignment.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These checks should all be performed on an annual basis by a qualified engineer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure you maximise the lifespan of your generator, it is important to perform tube conditioning regularly. Whenever possible, all X-ray generators should be \u2018warmed up\u2019 daily before first use.
