On 9th-11th October, the British Veterinary Nursing Association held their annual congress. BCF Radiographer and Applications Specialist Kat Evans was honoured to speak at the congress which offers unique CPD for veterinary nurses.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Kat delivered lectures focusing on the CT vs MRI as well as a lecture on veterinary applications for ultrasound. She also ran a practical wet lab session focused on vet nurse ultrasound which sold out.<\/p>\n

Commenting on her experience Kat said:<\/p>\n
“It was a great honour to be asked to speak at BVNA congress, and I was delighted to have the chance to share my knowledge and help people better understand the imaging equipment that they have. As well as this I enjoyed looking at the new technologies that are becoming more available within veterinary medicine. I think it’s vital for nurses to feel confident with the controls on ultrasound systems, as they are nearly always involved in scanning small animals, and are a fountain of knowledge within every practice’<\/em><\/p>\n We at BCF are proud to have supported such an important event which saw over 1,300 nurses attending. Offering varied CPD, a busy exhibition and some exciting competitions, the congress offered a lot to the delegates in attendance.<\/p>\n BCF in-house Vet and Clinical Manager Holly Johnson also attended on the Saturday to assist with the practical session held by Kat. The session followed a lecture on “Ultrasound physics, ‘knobology’ and image optimisation” and provided a range of phantoms for vet nurses to practice their scanning on by finding structures within it.<\/p>\n “Attendance at the practical session was fantastic. It was great to see so many delegates getting stuck in and scanning. Ultrasonography used during triage of some emergencies can provide invaluable information. The more familiar and confident a veterinary team is in using ultrasound equipment, the more useful it becomes to us, which can help speed up evaluation of critical patients.
