Or are you thinking about purchasing one?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imv-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Cat-shape-with-pointing-laser-1024x434.jpg\" alt=\"Laser on cat\" class=\"wp-image-61197\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lasers are categorized into \u2018classes\u2019 they emit non-ionising radiation (NIR),&nbsp;where the higher the class number, the greater the laser radiation hazard posed by the laser.&nbsp;The higher the radiant power of the device the greater the risk of injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HSE guidance gives examples of &#8216;hazardous&#8217; lasers that present a &#8216;reasonably foreseeable&#8217; risk of harming the eyes and skin of workers and where control measures are needed. All use of Class 3B and 4 lasers is specified as &#8216;hazardous&#8217; because of the potential to cause damage to eyes including blindness, burns to the skin, and fire.&nbsp;The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations (AOR) 2010 cover all forms of artificial light including lasers. This legislation clearly describes the legal requirements for the safe use of Lasers, in addition to the requirements placed upon the employer by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/legislation\/hswa.htm\">Health and Safety Act 1974<\/a>, which is enforced by the competent authority, the Health Safety Executive (HSE). The RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) have a voluntary initiative to accredit veterinary practices in the UK&nbsp;which aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care. The requirement of appointing an LPA has recently been specified in this accreditation scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imv-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Acronym-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61201\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are you compliant?\u00a0\u00a0The Health &amp; Safety Executive can, and will, conduct visits to check to ensure you comply with the legal requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can you answer yes to&nbsp;<strong>ALL<\/strong>&nbsp;of the following?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have you had advice from a Laser Protection Adviser (LPA)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have an up-to-date Risk Assessment?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have up-to-date Local Rules?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have sufficient Laser Protection Supervisors (LPS)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are your LPS\u2019s appropriately and adequately trained?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the answer is no, then you&nbsp;<strong>need to act now!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imv-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Compliance-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61205\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If the answer is yes, do you have documented evidence of all of the above?
