It was great to be back at the IVNA Congress<\/a>, held this year at the Tullamore Court Hotel. Once again, the committee did a great job organising it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set up was at the early hour of 6.30am on Saturday and there was a great atmosphere between all the exhibitors and the committee with everyone helping each other get ready for a busy day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegates arrived at 8.30am ready to engage with the exhibitors and enjoy the excellent lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had two prize hampers on offer, one simply for filling out our online form and letting us know the three things that you struggle most with in practice. This information will help us to see where we can offer support to nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winner of this hamper was Mary Kate Myles from O\u2019Dowd Veterinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second hamper was for nurses to test their scanning skills with the V-Scan Air<\/a>. We had a phantom with 8 dice hidden in it which we asked the delegates to scan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winner was Bridget Hayes from Cottage Vet Clinic who found all eight dice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a big entry for this competition with a good skill level being demonstrated by the delegates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The V-scan Air<\/a> is a really nice tool for nurses in practice. The size and convenience of it can really help improve the quality of care given to patients. It is a tool that can be used daily in practice. The first things that would come to my mind for its use would be in the wards. Due to its size it is much easier than bringing a larger or trolley based scanner into kennels to do post surgical scans or to scan recumbent patients. The other area I think it can be very useful is as part of history taking for trauma cases, especially if the vet is already in surgery or with another patient, a quick scan can be done by the nurse saved and shown to the vet who can decide how urgently this patient needs treatment. We are all very aware that a nurse cannot make a diagnosis but we can make a difference to patient care when we have access to tools like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have a great scanning course for nurses<\/a> coming up in the Irish office in June 25th<\/sup> with Jack Pye coming over to share his expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to catch up with nurses from practices from around the country, some who know us well and some who we hope will think of us if they are looking for new equipment or service of existing equipment or for consumables. We would be delighted to speak to anyone with enquiries about what we can offer across all of our imaging modalities. We are also happy to help plan maintenance contracts which helps ensure that equipment is kept in the best condition possible and that help is always available in the event of something going wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the last coffee break over it was time to pack up our stand until next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gala dinner was a great chance to catch with friends. The IVNA awards were presented after dinner. Huge congratulations to the award winners, Cian Duffy Student Veterinary Nurse of the Year from Veterinary Specialists Ireland and Veterinary Nurse of the Year Ann-Marie Byrne RVN DipVN BA Cert SHW Head of Nursing in UCD Veterinary Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
