Introduction to Abdominal Ultrasound Online Theory Course

Course Overview: Aimed at veterinary surgeons who are unsure or new to ultrasound, this course aims to give you the confidence to start performing ultrasound examinations of the abdominal cavity and optimising your images using the equipment you have available in practice.

Through a combination of text, videos, animations and interactive content, we will cover a logical and methodical approach to ultrasonography which will enable you to identify and fully evaluate all the major abdominal organs.

    • Relevant ultrasound physics and image formation

    • Machine controls and image optimisation

    • How best to prepare patients for ultrasound

    • Common artefacts encountered during ultrasound examinations

    • The interpretation and reporting of changes seen on ultrasound examination

    • A methodical and complete approach to examining the liver, stomach, intestines, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder, reproductive tract and colon

    • Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) examinations of the abdomen and thorax, including how to incorporate these techniques into the triage and tracking of patients
