IMV Next Steps in Abdominal Ultrasound (Online + Practical)
Course Overview:
The aim of this course is to continue to improve your skills in performing complete routine abdominal ultrasound examinations. After reviewing some key ultrasound concepts, we will cover a logical and methodical approach to assessing some of the smaller and less distinct areas of the abdomen, including the normal and pathological appearance of the adrenal glands, pancreas and lymph nodes, with a more in-depth approach to examining the gastrointestinal tract. The appearance and interpretation of common pathological changes will be discussed along with guides on how to perform routine quantitative measurements. Additionally, the fundamentals of Doppler ultrasound will be described along with its applications in abdominal ultrasound.
Following completion of the online course, the practical training day focuses on giving you hands-on ultrasound practice in a supportive, relaxed environment, guided by the IMV imaging Clinical Team. You will spend the entire day in demos and practical sessions, perfecting all the techniques you need to evaluate each of the trickier abdominal organs in turn.
Course Content:
- Practical landmarks and techniques to locate and assess all the regions of the pancreas
- Reliable landmarks to use when locating the adrenal glands
- The location of, and imaging techniques for, the GI tract including the pylorus, duodenum, ileocaecocolic junction and ileum
- How and where to find the abdominal lymph nodes
- Major abdominal vasculature and the use of Doppler ultrasonography
